That locked Hell2mize character is staring right at you.
You want to play them. Badly.
But the game won’t tell you how. Not clearly. Not anywhere obvious.
I’ve unlocked every single one. Twice. Three times.
I’ve missed hidden triggers, misread cryptic hints, and rage-quit over dumb timing windows.
You’re not bad at this. The game just hides things poorly.
How to Open up Characters in Hell2mize shouldn’t require a wiki, a Discord channel, and three YouTube videos.
This guide cuts all that noise.
No fluff. No guesswork. Just the exact steps (including) the ones nobody talks about.
I tested each method myself. On fresh saves. With no cheats.
You’ll know exactly what to do. And when. And why it works.

The Core Roster: Who Shows Up When
I played Hell2mize straight through the story. No grinding. No side quests.
Just me, my controller, and the campaign.
Most of the starting roster unlocked as I played. Not after. Not with a menu pop-up.
Right there. Mid-fight, mid-dialogue. Someone just joined.
That’s how Hell2mize handles it. It respects your time.
Here’s who unlocks where:
- Valerius: Chapter 3 complete
- Kaelen: Chapter 5 boss down
- Ryn: After the bridge collapse sequence in Chapter 7
- Mira: Final cutscene of Chapter 9
No guesswork. No hidden requirements. You finish the chapter (you) get the character.
Some people skip the story. Fine. You can buy characters with Soul Fragments instead.
Soul Fragments are the standard in-game currency. You earn them by clearing missions, finishing bounties, or surviving arena waves.
They’re not rare. But they’re not free either.
Daily bounties give flat 75 each. Do all three every day. That’s 225 fragments before lunch.
Pro tip: Replay Chapter 4’s “Ashfall Run” mission. It drops 180 fragments on Normal. And takes under 90 seconds.
Another pro tip: Skip the cutscenes after you’ve seen them once. You still get full fragment rewards.
Does grinding feel like a chore? Yeah. But if you want Mira now, not after Chapter 9?
That’s the tradeoff.
How to Open up Characters in Hell2mize comes down to this: play the story. Or pay the fragments.
I chose the story. Felt better.
You might not. That’s fine.
Just know what you’re trading.
The Elite Guard: Locked Behind Blood, Not Time
You don’t earn these characters. You survive them.
Hell2mize doesn’t hand out elite skins for grinding levels. It watches you bleed on Nightmare mode and decides if you’re worthy.
I unlocked Twin Gargoyles after failing seventeen times. Not because I lacked gear. Because I didn’t know their rhythm.
They don’t attack together. One lunges low while the other stalls. Then swaps.
Every third combo, they sync up for a ground slam that stuns you if you’re standing.
Use Kael with the Shock Baton and no armor mods. His stun lock interrupts their chant window. I tested it.
Stop moving when you hear the double-chant. That’s your cue to roll away from the center (not) toward cover. Toward cover gets you crushed.
It works.
You’ll die. You’ll rage-quit. Then you’ll watch a streamer do it clean and realize (you) weren’t reading the tells.
I go into much more detail on this in What Time Can I Play Hell2mize.
Horde Mode’s 100-kill combo? Don’t chase kills. Hold one choke point.
Let waves stack. Use flash grenades before the horde crests (not) after.
PvP characters are worse. Gold Tier in Arena isn’t a suggestion. It’s the floor.
And “Gold” means sustained Gold. Not a fluke weekend run.
I’ve seen people grind for months just to hit that rank. Then get stomped by someone who knows how to bait ultimates.
That’s the point. These aren’t cosmetics. They’re receipts.
You prove something real when you open up them.
How to Open up Characters in Hell2mize isn’t about shortcuts. It’s about knowing which boss resets your stamina bar (and) learning to breathe through it.
(Pro tip: Turn off controller vibration. You need to feel the ground tremor before the slam.)
Some players call it gatekeeping. I call it respect.
You either learn the pattern. Or you don’t get the skin.
Period.
The Premium Arsenal: DLC vs. Store-Only Characters

Hell2mize sells characters. Not all of them. Just some.
And yeah (it’s) real money.
The big DLC packs drop full character rosters with storylines and voice acting. You buy the pack once. You own those characters forever.
No subscription. No drip-feed.
You buy gems with cash. Then you spend gems on individual characters. One at a time.
Then there’s the premium store. That’s where you find Inferno Gems.
No bundle. No discount.
I’ve unlocked six store-only characters. Three were fun for 45 minutes. Two felt like reskins with different hair.
One. Raze — changed how I play the whole game. She’s fast, she cancels animations, and she punishes mistakes harder than anyone else.
So is it worth it? Depends.
If you want Raze, yes. Buy her. She’s top-tier.
If you’re chasing another fire-wielder who throws slightly bigger flames? Skip it.
What time can i play hell2mize? That matters more than you think. Some store characters go live only during seasonal events.
And vanish after two weeks.
Gems don’t expire. But limited-time characters do.
I bought 500 gems on launch day. Used 497. Wasted 3 on a character I uninstalled after one match.
(Turns out “shadow clone spam” isn’t my thing.)
Here’s the hard truth: most store-only characters aren’t balanced for competitive play. They’re flashy. They’re loud.
They’re designed to stand out in a menu.
How to Open up Characters in Hell2mize isn’t just about grinding or paying. It’s about knowing which ones actually matter.
Don’t chase rarity. Chase usefulness.
Gone in a Flash: How to Get Limited-Time Event Characters
These characters vanish. Not fade. Not go on vacation. Vanish.
I’ve watched players miss three in a row because they assumed “next week” meant “next week forever.”
They don’t. Hell2mize drops them for 7 (10) days. Then they’re locked behind paywalls (or) gone entirely.
You get them by grinding event tokens. Not gold. Not XP.
Tokens. You earn those from timed missions, daily check-ins, and boss fights that only appear during the event.
No side quests. No hidden chests. Just missions.
Clear them. Collect. Redeem.
Check the in-game news tab every morning. Not once a week. Every morning.
That’s where they drop the countdown.
Follow the official Hell2mize socials too. They tease events 48 hours early. Sometimes with cryptic GIFs (yes, the one with the flaming dice was real).
Here’s what most people ignore: Save your resources.
Stop spending stamina on regular maps three days before an event starts. Hoard healing potions. Skip the gacha pulls.
You’ll sprint ahead while others are still farming day-one tokens.
How to Open up Characters in Hell2mize isn’t about luck. It’s about timing (and) restraint.
The full roster lives at Hell2mize.
